A 15-day journey from Delhi to the Thar. Tigers at dawn, palaces on water, a desert that sings at night.
Some countries you visit. India you fall in love with.
Fifteen days. Tigers at dawn, palaces on water, a desert that sings at night. One route that rewrites what you thought travel could be.
This is not a tour. It is a story told in fifteen chapters, moving from the Mughal grandeur of Delhi and Agra, through the pink-washed streets of Jaipur and the wild forests of Ranthambore, to the lake palaces of Udaipur, the blue-lit lanes of Jodhpur, the golden sands of Jaisalmer and the painted havelis of Mandawa. Every day holds one moment you will retell for years.
Day-by-day itinerary
-
Day 01
Delhi — Where empires left their signatures
You arrive in Delhi and step straight into centuries of history. Stand beneath India Gate, wander the ramparts of the Red Fort, and find peace at Humayun’s Tomb, the graceful forerunner of the Taj Mahal. Stroll through Lodhi Garden and Mehrauli Park, climb among the ruins of Hauz Khas Fort and Purana Qila, and lose yourself in the crowds around Jama Masjid. Connaught Place, the Mughal gardens, the zoo and the green fairways of the golf course are all within reach, so the rest of the day is yours to explore as you choose.
-
Day 02
Delhi to Agra — A love story carved in marble
The road leads to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, the world’s most famous monument to love. Watch it glow in the light, then step inside Agra Fort, where Mughal emperors once ruled. Afterwards, drift through the local bazaars and discover the city’s artisanal footwear, made by hand in a tradition that has outlived dynasties.
-
Day 03
Agra to Jaipur — Ghost city to Pink City
Today you leave Agra for Jaipur, pausing at Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned red-sandstone capital of Emperor Akbar. In Jaipur, climb to Amer Fort, then pick your own adventure: try block printing at a Bagru workshop, learn Sanganeri painting from a master, or spend a gentle day with elephants. The evening is left for shopping in one of India’s great craft markets.
-
Day 04
Jaipur — Palaces by day, leopards by night
Jaipur reveals itself slowly. See Jal Mahal floating in its lake, admire the honeycomb windows of Hawa Mahal, and visit the hilltop temples and monkeys of Galta Ji. Follow a guide through the city’s best street food, spend time shopping and sightseeing locally, then head out on a leopard safari. You may choose to end the night in a glamping stay under the open sky.
-
Day 05
Jaipur to Ranthambore — Meet the king of the jungle
Ranthambore is one of India’s most celebrated tiger reserves. Set out on a tiger safari in search of a glimpse of the great cat, then take a boat to Palighat for a crocodile safari. Between drives, explore Ranthambore Fort, which looks out over the forests from its ancient walls.
-
Day 06
Ranthambore to Chittor / Bhilwara via Bundi — The hidden gem nobody put on the map
The route winds through Bundi, a quiet, storybook town of stepwells, painted palaces and blue lanes that most travellers never see. Continue to Bhilwara for a stay at Sangam farm, then walk through the village of Pangarh and trek the surrounding countryside. If you wish, a yoga retreat offers a calm pause in the middle of the journey.
-
Day 07
Chittor to Udaipur — The city that floats on dreams
Udaipur is built around its lakes. See the city from Ambrai Ghat, enjoy the waters of Fateh Sagar, and visit Sajjangarh for views across the valley. Learn how Udaipur cooks with a tour of a local house kitchen, where recipes are passed from one generation to the next.
-
Day 08
Udaipur — Where art is still handmade
This day belongs to craft. Discover Sanjhi paper-cut art, Pichwai painting and the carved Jharokha windows, shop for handcrafted leather, and try your own hand at a painting workshop. A visit to Nathdwara, famous for its Pichwai tradition and its temple, brings the story of these arts to life.
-
Day 09
Udaipur to Jawai — Leopards, boulders and bonfires
The landscape turns wild as you reach Jawai, where leopards live among granite hills. Stay at Rawla Narlai, head out on a leopard safari and camp under the stars with a crackling bonfire. Enjoy high tea beside the lake and another among the granite hills, a quiet luxury in a rugged setting.
-
Day 10
Jawai to Jodhpur — Under the shadow of Mehrangarh
Jodhpur’s great fort, Mehrangarh, towers over the city. Explore it, then taste your way through the old streets on a street food tour. Look out for tie and dye textiles and handmade mojri shoes, perfect keepsakes of the Blue City.
-
Day 11
Jodhpur — Villages that guard old traditions
Leave the city for Chandelao Garh and walk through the village to see rural Rajasthan up close. Visit a Bishnoi community, known for its deep reverence for nature, and spend the evening at Dhanna Ram ki Dhani, where hospitality is a way of life.
-
Day 12
Jodhpur to Jaisalmer — Sleep beneath a million desert stars
The road runs west into the Thar Desert and the golden city of Jaisalmer. Spend the day sightseeing, visit the ghostly village of Kuldhara, and end it with a desert camping safari among the dunes, where the silence is as memorable as the sunset.
-
Day 13
Jaisalmer to Bikaner — From golden sands to red sandstone
In Bikaner, see the city’s palaces and old quarters, then step into a living tradition with mehendi and a traditional Rajasthani marriage experience, a colourful celebration of music, ritual and joy.
-
Day 14
Mandawa — Walk through an open-air art gallery
Mandawa’s havelis are covered in painted murals that turn the town into an open-air art gallery. Wander its lanes, then head out on a barren land safari across a stark and beautiful landscape.
-
Day 15
Departure — Leave with more than you came with
Your journey ends, but its stories travel home with you: a skill learned, a flavour remembered and perhaps a stranger who became a friend.
What if the best souvenir is a skill, a story and a stranger who became a friend?
